Using Your Penn-Online Account with Outlook Express.

Setting up your email account in Outlook Express is very easy if you follow the instructions below:-

Open Outlook Express by clicking your desktop icon.

Click Tools>Accounts,

When the following window appears, click the "Add" button,

Click the "Mail" option on the popup menu,

Type in your name (the new account name) and click the "Next" button,

Type in your email address (from your "welcome" letter) and click the "Next"  button,

Type in the names of your POP3 and SMTP server.

NOTE: If you are using a Penn-Online dial up, these will be:-

POP3: mail.yourdomainname.co.uk (or .com)

SMTP: smtp.yourdomainname.co.uk (or .com)

If you are using another ISP to dial in to your account, you will need to set the POP3 and SMTP server up as follows:-

POP3: mail.yourdomainname.co.uk (or .com)

SMTP: e.g. smtp.yourISP.com (Check with your ISP!).

If the SMTP server is set incorrectly, you will be able to receive emails BUT NOT SEND THEM!

Now click the "Next" button to continue.

Type in your email address and password (from your "welcome" letter).

Click the "Next" button to continue,

That's it! Now click the "Finish" button.

If you have more than one email account to set up, go through the above process again and finally decide which email account you wish to use as your default account.

Highlight the account you want as the default account and click the "Set as Default" button.

The default account should appear with (default) against it.

Finally click the "Close" button.

N.B. The "Default account is the one that your emails will appear to come from, whenever you write an email.

It is possible to set up two accounts for the same email name, setting one to use your Penn-Online dial up and the other to use your existing ISP dial up. This way if either we or your ISP have our dial up servers down for maintenance, you can still send and receive emails.

To set the dial up account for each email, click Tools>Accounts then highlight the account you want to edit and click the "Properties" button.

On the Properties window, click the "Connection Tab" and select the dial up that you wish to use.

If you have a broadband connection, just leave this window set to Local Area Network.
