Setting Up Your Penn-Online Dial Up Connection in
Windows 98.
To set up your Penn-Online Dial Up Connection, obtain your
welcome letter with the copy of your username, password and the dial up access
telephone number.
Next click:
Start>Programs>Accessories>Communications>Dial-Up Networking, on
your start menu.

In the Dial-Up Networking window that appears, double click
"Make new Connection", as shown below.

The "Make New Connection" window appears:-

Type a new name for the connection (it can be anything you
want, but we suggest that you call the connection "Penn-Online", so
that you can distinguish it from any other connections that you have.)

Then click the "Next>" button as shown above.
Type in the Dial Up Access Telephone number that we sent you in your Welcome
Letter and when you are sure it is correct (including the Area Code), click the
"Next>" button.

The final screen confirms that you have set up the connection.
Click "Finish" to confirm the connection.

You will return to the Dial-Up Networking Window.
Double click the new "Penn Online" connection you have created.

Type in your username and password and make sure that you
click the "Save Password" box so that a tick appears in it.
The phone number that you typed in earlier should be shown (we have truncated it
here for security reasons). Finally click the "Connect" button to make
the connection to the Internet via Penn Online.
NOTE: The password will not be saved until a successful
connection is made to Penn Online. If the connection fails you will have to type
in the username and password again, making sure that the "Save
Password" box is still ticked before you proceed.

We suggest that you put a shortcut to the Penn Online Dial Up
on your desktop. You can use this to directly open the connection to check it's
working, rather than rely on Internet Explorer (or Outlook/Express) to open it
for you. |
